The project consists in replacing the entire reinforced concrete deck, which has four
traffic lanes 1.4 kilometres long and covers an area of approximately 40,684 square metres.
The new deck will be made primarily of pre-stressed prefabricated concrete units assembled using
prestressing strands (steel cables). It is expected that it will take more than 1,300 prefabricated
deck units to complete the deck. The precast deck units will be fabricated and installed under two separate contracts.
A new bikeway 2.5 metres wide along the upstream (west) side of the bridge will replace
the existing sidewalk and curb.
