Environment

In July 2004, the Corporation updated its Environment Policy, which may be summarized as follows.

The Corporation is committed to protecting the environment and recognizes that this is important to its ongoing success. The concept of sustainable development is paramount, which concept may be defined as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."*

The objectives of the Environment Policy are to:

  • properly and safely manage and monitor all aspects of environmental protection and risks within the Corporation's control;

  • govern the Corporation's approach with regards to environmental matters;

  • define the Corporation's environmental responsibility;

  • advise the Corporation's managers and employees whose decisions and actions have an impact on the environment.

The Corporation develops, maintains, implements and documents procedures and programs to minimize the impact of the Corporation's operations on the natural environment.
