Montreal, October 21, 2003
At
the 49th Annual Convention/Exhibition held in Orlando, Florida, on October 21,
2003, the
Jacques Cartier Bridge Redecking Project won a Precast Design Award in
the Best Rehabilitated Bridge category from the Precast/Prestressed
Concrete Institute. The Jacques Cartier Bridge project was the only Canadian
project to win an award among the 138 submissions received from across
North America.

The
Institut
d'acier
et d'armature du Québec awarded The Jacques Cartier and Champlain
Bridges Incorporated and Groupement SMDB an Armatura award for civil
engineering for the Jacques Cartier Bridge deck replacement work. The
award was presented during the third Armatura awards ceremony, titled La
fierté des bâtisseurs, 30 ans d'innovation [the pride of builders:
30 years of innovation].
The Armatura awards recognize the prominent use of reinforced concrete in
modern construction projects other than single-family dwellings.

The
Association des ingénieurs-conseils du Québec marked National
Engineering Week national celebration of excellence in
engineering to launch the first Grands Prix du génie-conseil québcois
[Quebec consulting engineers awards].
The
awards evening, held at the Montreal Science Centre, was held in
recognition of consult and client partnerships a crucial factor in
ensuring projects success.
Following an analysis of 30
projects
carried out in Quebec
and on the international scene from January 1, 2000 to September 30, 2002,
9 winners, comprising consulting engineers and their clients, received a Léonard
award. The winners have improved quality of life by applying science and
technology to achieve sustainable development.
The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated and SNC-Lavalin
Inc. won a Léonard Award in the
transportation infrastructure category for the Jacques
Cartier
Bridge deck replacement work.

The
prestigious ARCUS awards are presented annually
by
the Association Béton Québec. These awards highlight the outstanding
contribution of an individual or group of individuals made to a project
using ready-mixed concrete for enhancing the quality, originality,
innovation or aesthetics of their design, and which helps promote the
intrinsic qualities of ready-mixed concrete.
On March 13, in cooperation with the Association des Architectes en
pratique privée du Québec and the Association des ingénieurs-conseils
du Québec, the ABQ awarded the third prize jointly, as finalist, to both
SNC-Lavalin Inc. and The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges
Incorporated for work done to replace the Jacques Cartier Bridge deck.
Montreal, 1994
The
Corporation won the Méritas Award in the "team" category for
the Champlain Bridge restoration1994). This award is presented
annually by the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec, Régionale Plein Sud, to
a team of engineers that has distinguished itself through the outstanding
quality of its contribution to a large-scale project.
